The Tata
LPTA 713 TC is a light utility truck. It is in service with the
Indian Army and some other countries. Its production commenced in
1999. It is believed that production of this truck still continues.
Over 15 000 of these military trucks were delivered to the Indian
Army alone. Vehicles had been exported to Afghanistan, Nepal and
South Africa. The Tata is the largest India's automobile company. A
large number of these trucks are in service with the Indian
military.
This
military truck has a payload capacity of 2 500 kg. The standard
version of the LPTA 713 TC is a general service vehicle for troop
and cargo carrying. The cargo body is fitted with drop sides and
drop tailgate. It is covered with bows and tarpaulin. Other body
types can be fitted. Vehicle can tow trailers with a maximum weight
of 5 000 kg.
The Tata
LPTA 713 TC has a forward control cab. It accommodates driver and
one passenger. The cab has a roof hatch.
This
military truck is powered by a Tata Cummins 6BT turbocharged diesel
engine, developing 125 hp. This engine meets EURO I emission
requirements. It is worth mentioning that in 1993 Tata entered into
a joint venture with Cummins engine company to produce the B-series
engine in India. Engine is coupled with a 5-speed manual gearbox.
The front axle is disengaged for on-road driving.
Other
production versions of the Tata LPTA 713 TC include a field
ambulance. It accommodates four stretchers. Around 400 of these
vehicles have been built. There is also a Tata LPTA 715 water
tanker, fitted with a 2 000 liter capacity tank. 600 of these
tankers have been ordered by the Indian Army. There is a light
armored troop carrier version of the Tata LPTA 713 TC. It
accommodates driver and 9-12 passengers. Armor provides protection
for the troops against 7.62 mm ball rounds.
