The Shaanxi SX2150 military truck is an improved version of the SX250, produced since 1990s. In the 1990s under the new designation system the SX250 was renamed as the SX2150. Despite some minor changes, appearance of this military truck remains significantly unchanged since the 1970s.

The Shaanxi SX2150 is a heavy-duty military truck, designed to operate over all kinds of roads and off-road. It is based on the chassis design of the Soviet Ural-375, which was one of the most widely used military trucks in service with the Soviet Army. Overall the SX2150 proved to be a successful design.

The truck has a double cab, which accommodates driver and 3 passengers.

A baseline version is a general service troop and cargo carrier. It can carry 10 t on roads and 5 t off-road. This truck has cargo body with drop-sides and drop-tailgate. The cargo area can be covered with bows and canvas cover. The SX2150 is widely used as an artillery tractor for various artillery pieces, such as Type 59 gun, PL-66 gun-howitzer, and PL-96 howitzer with their ammunition and crews. It can also tow various trailers. Maximum towed load is 6 500 kg.

This Chinese military truck is often seen carrying various bodies. The Shaanxi SX2150 truck is widely used as a platform for various weapon systems and missiles.

This truck is powered by a diesel engine, mated to a manual 5-speed transmission.

Variants

Shaanxi SX2150K is an improved second-generation version. It entered service with the mid 1990s and was produced in large numbers. This truck is fitted with an Austrian Steyr WD615.71 turbocharged diesel engine, and 9-speed transmission. The engine develops 256 hp. This truck is significantly faster and has a top speed of 87 km/h, opposed to 70 km/h of the original SX2150. It is 60 kg lighter than the baseline SX2150, but otherwise has similar dimensions and payload capacity. This truck can be recognized by headlights relocated to the front bumper.

Shaanxi SX2150KA is a chassis version of the SX2150K, intended to carry various bodies and shelters.

Shaanxi SX2150KB is a tanker version. Its exhaust pipe was relocated under the cab.

Shaanxi SX2150KE is a recovery version, fitted with winches. This vehicle is intended to recover damaged, immobile, stuck and overturned trucks. It also tows them to nearest maintenance and repair units.

Shaanxi SX2150KS is a version of the SX2150K, fitted with a Steyr 2-door cab. The cab also accommodates driver plus 3 passengers. General performance of the truck also remains unchanged.

Shaanxi SX4240E is a tractor truck, intended to tow various semi-trailers. It can transport loads with a maximum weight of 30 t on roads and up to 23 t off-road. This tractor truck is used to transport DF-21 ballistic missiles.
