In the 1980s a partnership was made between Chinese vehicle factories and Austrian Steyr company. The Steyr company sold production rights for some of its trucks, including a successful Steyr 91. License production of these trucks in China began shortly. The Shaanxi SX2110 is based around the Steyr 91 truck technology. Some modifications were made to the Steyr 91 design to make it more suitable for local production. This truck is produced by Shaanxi since the mid 1980s. The Shaanxi Automobile Group is one of the largest truck manufacturers in China. The truck is being proposed for export customers. It has been exported to Indonesia, and possibly some other countries.

The Shaanxi SX2110 is used to transport troops and various military cargo. This cargo truck can carry 5 000 kg of cargo on hard surface roads and 3 500 kg off road. It has some degree of cross-country mobility. However it is most likely that the SX2110 is mainly used as a logistic supply truck. It can also tow trailers or artillery pieces. There are a number of specialized versions of this truck, such as mobile workshops.

Cargo area of this Chinese military truck is fitted with drop-sides and drop-tailgate. It can be covered with bows and canvas cover.

Cab of this military truck is generally similar to that used on the Steyr 91. It accommodates driver and one passenger. Some of the cabs are extended and have sleeper berths, or can accommodate driver and 3 passengers. The cab is tilted forward for engine access and maintenance.

Vehicle is powered by a Wei Chai WD415.21 6.5-liter turbocharged diesel engine, developing 210 hp. It is a license-produced version of the Steyr engine. This engine complies with EURO II emission requirements. This engine is license-produced in China, and is also used on some other Chinese military trucks, such as HOWO. Engine is mated to a manual transmission. Vehicle has a 4x4 configuration. This military truck can be fitted with a central tyre inflation system. This system is proposed as an option. A recovery winch is also optional.

Variants

Shaanxi SX2151. It is fitted with a more powerful engine, developing 260 hp. This truck can carry more payload.

Shaanxi SX2190 is a larger version with 6x6 configuration.

Shaanxi SX2300 is a version with 8x8 configuration.
