The Oshkosh Wheeled Tanker was specially designed to meet requirement of the UK MoD Wheeled Tanker Program. It is based on Oshkosh MTVR Mk.31 tractor truck and is designed to tow specialized semi-trailers with fuel and water tanks over unimproved roads. It is worth noting that the MTVR Mk.31 tractor truck is used by the US Marine Corps. This vehicle proved itself well. It has been deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan.

The other competitor for this program was a team led by Marshall Specialist Vehicles. In 2003 the Oshkosh was selected as preferred bidder for the UK MoD Wheeled Tanker Program. Approximately 350 tractor trucks with associated tanker-trailer combinations were ordered for the British Army and Royal Air Force. These tankers are deployed by logistic support and transport regiments.

Three types of tanker trailers are in use. There is a 15 000 liter aircraft refueller, 20 000 liter close support tanker with fuel and 18 000 liter close support tanker with water. Articulated trailers were produced by Magyar, the leading European manufacturer of stainless steel tankers. All are towed by the same 6x6 tractor truck. This tactical fuel tanker forms the backbone of the British Army's fuel and water transportation.

It is one of the most mobile tactical tankers in the world. The tractor truck and tanker combination has good cross-country mobility. It is intended for 70% off-road mission profile. It can deliver fuel or water to the frontline.

The cab accommodates driver and co-driver. It can be fitted with add-on armor kit for the crew protection against small arms fire, artillery shell splinters and mine blasts. For self-defense it can be armed with 7.62-mm machine gun.

This logistical support vehicle is powered by a Caterpillar C12 turbocharged diesel engine, developing 445 hp. Vehicle has a full-time all-wheel drive. It is fitted with a central tyre inflation system that can be adjusted from the drivers seat. The Oshkosh tractor truck and tanker-trailer combination can be airlifted by C-130 Hercules tactical cargo aircraft. This feature facilitates quick deployment worldwide.
