The Oshkosh LVSR MKR16 tractor truck is a member of LVSR family of 10x10 heavy high mobility vehicles. The Logistic Vehicle System Replacement (LVSR) was developed to meet requirement of the US Marine Corps. In 2011 USMC ordered 200 of these tractors. First production vehicles were delivered in 2012.

The new LVSR MKR16 tractor truck replaces in USMC service the previous Oshkosh Mk.48/16 tractor truck. This new 10x10 vehicle is used in conjunction with M870A2 semi-trailer. On hard surface roads it can tow loads with a maximum weight of about 45 t. Typically it is used to tow heavy equipment, combat and engineer vehicles, as well as various other military loads. This vehicle has good cross-country mobility and can operate across rough terrain. This new tractor truck will form a part of USMC logistics fleet.

Cab accommodates driver and co-driver. There is also an optional seat for third person. The cab has a factory-installed integrated armor and energy-absorbing seats. So the cab of a baseline vehicle provides some level of protection against small arms fire, artillery shell splinters and mine blasts. Add-on armor kit can be fitted for a higher level of protection.

This tractor truck is powered by Caterpillar C15 15.2-liter turbocharged diesel engine, developing 600 hp. The same engine is used across the range of Oshkosh LVSR vehicles. Engine is located behind and under the cab. Such layout allowed to reduce height of the vehicle. Also such design protects damage of the radiator or blockage with mud. It is mated to Allison 7-speed automatic transmission. This vehicle shares a number of automotive components with the Oshkosh MTVR heavy utility truck, that is also used by US Marine Corps.

The MKR16, as well as other LVSR vehicles, has a 10x10 axle configuration. It is fitted with a central tyre inflation system. In order to reduce turning radius this tractor truck has a four-axle steering on 1, 2, 4 and 5 axle. Vehicle is fitted with a 27 t capacity self-recovery winch. It is also used to winch equipment onto the trailer.

This tractor truck can be airlifted by C-17 Globemaster III or C-5A Galaxy aircraft. Height of the vehicle can be reduced by 50 cm for easier transportation. With additional preparation it can be airlifted by the C-141 Starlifter.
