   The Oshkosh 1070F heavy equipment transporter evolved from the M1070. The original M1070 is used by the US Army in large numbers. In 1997 an M1070E1 was offered to the British Army to meet their Heavy Equipment Transporter requirement. In 2001 this tractor truck with associated semi-trailer was selected by the British Army. A total of 92 tractor truck and 89 associated semi-trailers were delivered between 2003 and 2004. It replaced the Scammell Commander. Some of the British Oshkosh 1070F tank transporters are stationed in Germany. Also some of the vehicles saw action in Iraq.

   The Oshkosh 1070F is a much revised M1070E1. It shares a common chassis and axle set with the M1070 model. However all major driveline components have been revised. Vehicle is fitted with more powerful engine and new cab.

   In the British Army service the Oshkosh 1070F is used in conjunction with King GTS110/7 semi-trailer. This combination can transport loads up to 75 000 kg. This tank transporter is used to carry Challenger 2 main battle tanks, combat vehicles, artillery systems and other heavy loads. It can also transport two lighter armored vehicles, such as Warrior IFVs, or two shipping containers. The Oshkosh 1070F is a tactical vehicle, designed to carry loads to the frontline. It can tow loaded semi-trailer over unimproved roads.

   Cab of the Oshkosh 1070F accommodates driver and five passengers. The rear seat for four passenger can be transformed into a sleeper bunk for two. The cab can be fitted with add-on armor kit. It can be also fitted with slat armor for protection against RPG rounds. Vehicle can be also fitted with protective weapon station, armed with 7.62-mm machine gun, and electronic countermeasures equipment.

   The Oshkosh 1070F is powered by the Caterpillar C18 turbocharged diesel engine, developing 700 hp. It meets EURO 3 exhaust emission levels. Vehicle is fitted with Allison 7-speed automatic transmission. Vehicle has a full-time 8x8 configuration. This prime mover is fitted with a traction control system, that prevents wheel spin on slippery surfaces. Vehicle is also fitted with a central tyre inflation system. The prime mover is fitted with two 25 t capacity hydraulic winches for loading operations.

   British Army also operates Oshkosh 6x6 tactical fuel tanker. It is based on Oshkosh MTVR Mk.31 tractor truck and is designed to tow semi-trailer with fuel and water tanks over unimproved roads.
