The
MZKT-6002 is a new Belarusian 8x8 high mobility truck. It was
developed to meet a possible requirement of Belarusian armed forces,
but is also aimed at export customers. This military truck was first
publicly revealed in 2015. Recent MZKT trucks are typically marketed
under Volat brand.
The
MZKT-6002 with 8x8 configuration is a member of a Belarusian
military truck family, that also included
MZKT-6001 with 6x6 configuration and
MZKT-5002 with 4x4 configuration. However difference in the
overall length between 6x6 and 8x8 versions is only 8 cm.
In concept
the MZKT-6002 is similar to a German
MAN SX45
heavy military truck. It is a purpose-designed military vehicle. It
has good cross-country mobility and can operate over rugged terrain
and off-road.
The
MZKT-6002 has a payload capacity of 16 500 kg. The baseline model,
that was revealed in 2015 is a general service troops/cargo truck.
Cargo area is fitted with drop-sides and drop-tailgate. It is
covered with bows and canvas cover. This military truck can also tow
trailers and heavy artillery pieces with a maximum weight of about
15 t. However this 8x8 truck was also designed to carry heavy and
specialized equipment, such as radars, command shelters, antenna
masts, missile launchers and so on.
This
military truck has a low-profile cab. It is made of steel rather
than composite materials. It is worth noting that windscreens are
mounted vertically, in order to minimize light reflections. The cab
accommodates driver and one or two passengers. The cab can be fitted
with add-on armor kit as well as protection against mines and IEDs.
There is a roof hatch for firing and emergency exit.
Vehicle is
powered by a Caterpillar C15 turbocharged diesel engine, developing
540 hp. It is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. It seems
that alternatively this truck can be fitted with a Russian-made
diesel engine. Engine is located behind the cab. Such layout allowed
to reduce overall height. Also such engine location protects damage
of the radiator and blockage with mud. Vehicle has an 8x8
configuration with full-time all-wheel drive. This machine has
significant ground clearance. As most military trucks, the MZKT-6002
is fitted with a central tyre inflation system. It can keep pace
with tracked combat vehicles across any terrain. It is also fitted
with a self-recovery winch.
