The
MZKT-6001 heavy utility truck was publicly revealed in 2009. It is
entirely new design. It was developed to meet a possible requirement
of the Belarusian armed forces. It is also aimed at export
customers. The
MZKT-6001 is planned as a baseline model for the whole family of
4x4, 6x6, 8x8 and maybe even 10x10 military trucks. Recent MZKT
trucks are typically marketed under Volat brand.
The baseline
model is a general service vehicle for troop and cargo
transportation. The MZKT-6001 has a payload capacity of 11.2 t.
Cargo area is fitted with drop-sides and drop-tailgate. Cargo area is covered with
bows and canvas cover. This military truck can also tow trailers and
artillery pieces with a maximum weight of 10 t.
This military truck has a
low-profile cab. The cab is made of steel rather than composite
materials. These is seating for driver and two passengers. The cab
can be fitted with add-on armor kit as well as protection against
mines and IEDs.
This military truck is
powered by a YaMZ-7513 turbocharged diesel engine, developing
420 hp. Engine is mounted behind the cab. Such layout allowed to
reduce overall height. Also such engine location protects damage of
the radiator and blockage with mud. Because of such engine layout
the MZKT-6001 resembles MAN high mobility trucks. Vehicle has a 6x6
configuration with full-time all-wheel drive. Also this military
truck has significant ground clearance. Vehicle is fitted with a
central tyre inflation system.
Variants
MZKT-6006 is
a newer version, which can carry much more payload. It is powered by
a YaMZ-75117 turbocharged diesel engine, developing 400 hp. This
vehicle has a payload capacity of 21.8 t. That double that of the
baseline MZKT-6001.
MZKT-5002 is a
smaller 4x4 version.
It was first publicly revealed in 2013. It was developed to meet
requirements of Belarusian border guards.
MZKT-6002 is an 8x8 version. It was first publicly revealed in
2015. It emerged as a general service troop and cargo transport.
However this high mobility vehicle was also designed to carry heavy
and specialized equipment, such as radars, command shelters, antenna
masts, missile launchers and so on.
