The Mercedes-Benz Vito is a popular light van. This versatile vehicle is also used by the German armed forces and a number of other countries. Production of the first generation Mercedes Vito commenced in 1996. The second generation was introduced in 2004. The name was changed to Viano. The third generation is produced since 2014. The name was changed once again to V-class.

The Vito comes with various wheelbase versions and body lengths. Typically it has 6- or 8-seats, depending on the version. It is mainly used by non-frontline units, such as military police, that do not require a high mobility vehicle. It is mainly used in utility role to carry passengers and light cargo.

Depending on the versions vehicle has a payload capacity of about 900 kg. It can tow trailer with a maximum weight of 2 500 kg.

Recent Vito models are powered by 2.1-liter (94, 134 or 161 hp) or 3-liter (221 hp) turbocharged diesel engines. Engines are mated with 5- or 7-speed manual, or 6-speed automatic gearboxes. The first generation model had front- or four-wheel drive configurations. The second and third generation models have  rear- or four-wheel drive configurations. Cross-country mobility of this vehicle is modest due to its commercial nature.

Other light commercial vehicles modified by Mercedes-Benz to suit military needs are Sprinter and Vario. Both of these vehicles can carry more passengers and cargo than the Vito.
