The
Mercedes-Benz Arocs range of militarized trucks is available with 4x4, 6x6 and 8x8 configurations.
This militarized version was first introduced in 2014. The Arocs is
a heavy duty commercial vehicle, designed for constructions and
similar roles. There is even a commercial version with 10x6
configuration. However its modified versions are being offered for
military customers. The militarized Arocs is
mainly intended for logistical operations under conditions of peace.
It is by no means a purpose-designed tactical military vehicle. The
main advantage of the Arocs trucks that these are economical to run
and to maintain. Still though the Arocs
has some degree of cross-country mobility due to its all-wheel drive
configuration. For tactical role the Mercedes-Benz company offers
another
Actros range
of militarized trucks. These have better off road
mobility and can be fitted with armored cabs.
The Arocs
truck with 8x8 configuration is being offered with a general service
troop/cargo body. It can carry loads of up to 18 t. However most
likely that this truck will be mainly used to carry various
specialized equipment.
Cab of this
truck accommodates the driver, plus one or two passengers. Different
cab sizes are available. Armored cabs or add-on armor kits are not
being offered for this vehicle.
Vehicle is
powered by a 12.8-liter Mercedes-Benz OM 471 turbocharged diesel
engine, developing 510 hp. It is also available with a more powerful
15.6-liter engine, developing 625 hp. Vehicle has a permanent all-wheel drive. The Arocs is
also available with selectable 8x8 and 8x4 configurations. In this
case two front axles are only engaged when traveling over difficult
terrain. Spare parts of this vehicle are readily available due to
its commercial nature. This simplifies servicing and maintenance.
Variants
Arocs
4151 is a baseline version with 8x8 configuration. This baseline
vehicle can be customized in many different variants.
Arocs 4163
is a tractor truck with 8x6 configuration. It was designed to tow
semi-trailers with various loads, such as tanks, artillery systems,
armored vehicles, construction materials and other military loads.
This vehicle can haul its loads over long distances. It is powered
by a 15.6-liter engine, developing 625 hp. This tractor truck has up
to 6 seats. So it can be uses to carry an armored vehicle with its
crew.
Derman is a
Turkish range of military trucks. It is a product of Koluman
Automotive Industries. It is being proposed in 4x4, 6x6, 8x8, and
10x10 configurations. The Derman is based on the Mercedes-Benz Arocs
range.
