The Mach Sherpa is a rebadged version of a French Renault Sherpa, which was first produced in 2007 and is used by some countries. Since the year 2000 both Mack and Renault companies are subsidiaries of Volvo. The Mack Sherpa is a multi-purpose tactical vehicle, similar to the US HMMWV. In 2016 it was adopted by Mexican naval infantry.

The Mack Sherpa is a purpose-designed military vehicle, built for rugged, remote applications. It is well suited for desert conditions and can travel over difficult terrain.

Cab of the Mack Sherpa can be fitted with add-on protection kit against small arms fire and artillery shell splinters. It also provides some degree of protection against landmines and improvised explosive devices.

This military vehicle can be armed with a shielded 12.7 mm machine gun or 40 mm automatic grenade launcher. It can be also fitted with a remotely controlled weapon station.

Vehicle is powered by a Mack 4.8-liter turbocharged diesel engine, developing 215 hp. It is a rebadged Renault engine. Engine is mated with an Allison 6-speed automatic transmission. Vehicle has a full-time 4x4 configuration. Interestingly the Mack Sherpa has higher ground clearance than the US HMMWV. A central tyre inflation system is optional. When fitted, a tyre pressure is adjusted from the driver's station on the move to suit terrain conditions. Such system is very effective driving over sand, mud or snow. Run-flat tyres are optional. Self-recovery winch is also optional. With preparation this vehicle can ford water obstacles up to 1.5 m deep.

The Mack Sherpa is fully air transportable. It can be airlifted by C-130 Hercules, A400M Atlas, or other military transport aircraft.

Unarmored version of this vehicle has a payload capacity of 4 100 kg and can also tow trailers or artillery pieces with a maximum weight of 3 500 kg. The armored version has lower payload capacity.

Mack Sherpa Special Forces is an open-top patrol vehicle, intended for reconnaissance and long-range patrols. It accommodates driver plus 4 passengers, has a folding windscreen and supports various machine guns.

Mack Sherpa Scout is a 4-door light protected vehicle with a cargo area at the rear. It accommodates driver plus 3 or 4 passengers. Its armor provides protection for the passengers against small arms fire and artillery shell splinters. It also provides some degree of protection against mine blasts and improvised explosive devices. This vehicle is used by Mexican naval infantry.

Mack Sherpa Hawkeye is 2-door vehicle, fitted with a Hawkeye lightweight 105 mm howitzer at the rear. Essentially it is a standard US Army's M20 105 mm howitzer, modified for use on light vehicles and fitted with automated fire control system.
