   The Jonyang JY813 is a Chinese articulated all-terrain tracked carrier. It was recently developed in China by GJK, a Chinese subsidiary of Singapore Technologies Kinetics. Originally it was developed as a commercial vehicle, but was soon adapted to meet military needs. The JY813 strongly resembles a Singaporean Bronco ATTC, however it is not armored. The JY813 has been recently adopted by Chinese armed forces and it seems that it is used in large numbers.

   The Jonyand JY813 has a traditional layout for an articulated all-terrain tracked carrier. It has two articulated units. Connection to the rear unit is made via an articulated joint which is also used for steering. It gives great flexibility in all axles and extremely good maneuverability. Power is driving on all four of the tracks, which exert a ground pressure less than that of the man's foot.

   Engine is mounted at the rear of the forward unit, together with automatic transmission. The rear unit can accommodate different bodies. Most of them are enclosed, however also there are open-topped bodies.

   This type of vehicles have exceptional cross-country mobility. Articulated tracked carrier can negotiate such obstacles as soft snow, drifting sand, mud and marshlands. These vehicles can climb considerable gradients and swim without preparation. The Jonyang JY813 has exceptional mobility in difficult terrain and sufficient speed on hard surface roads. It can operate at altitude of 3 000 m above the sea level.

   A baseline JY813 is a troop/cargo carrier. It can travel on all kinds of roads, off-road and over mountainous terrain. Maximum payload capacity is about 4 500 kg. The front unit can carry 1 100 kg, and the rear unit - 3 400 kg. This vehicle can carry 16 troops, including the driver. The front unit has four side doors and accommodates 6 soldiers, including the driver. The rear unit has only a rear door. It accommodates 10 soldiers. Both front and rear units have roof hatches for observation, firing, and emergency exit.

   Vehicle is powered by a Caterpillar C7 ACERT turbocharged diesel engine, developing 300 hp. It is a commercially available and widely used industrial engine. The Jonyand JY813 has an automatic transmission. The simplicity in the handling of the vehicle involves a minimum of driver training. The JY813 has a watertight body and is fully-amphibious. On water it is propelled by spinning its tracks. Amphibious speed on water is 5 km/h. Maximum range on water is 40 to 50 km. The vehicle can be airlifted by a variety of aircraft and helicopters.

   From the earliest stage the JY813 was designed to be a versatile multi-purpose vehicle. It can be tailored to meet many battlefield roles.

Variants

   Ambulance. It is in service with Chinese army;

   Refueller. Its rear unit carries a fuel tank with fuel dispensing equipment. It can refuel two vehicles simultaneously. It is in service with Chinese army;

   Cargo vehicle. An open-top rear unit has cargo area with drop-sides and drop-tailgate. It can be used to carry various military cargo. It seems that it can be also used as a mortar carrier. However it is unknown if this cargo vehicle is used by the Chinese military.
