The Handalan light military truck was developed by HICOM of Malaysia in cooperation with Isuzu of Japan. It was first revealed in 1996. Initially it was known as FSS 32G. Basically it was an Isuzu truck, supplied in knock-down kits and assembled in Malaysia with some local components. By 2003 around 1 870 trucks were delivered to the Malaysian Army. Production of the original Handalan I ceased in 2003. It was replaced in production by newer models.

This vehicle has a payload capacity of 3 000 kg. The baseline model is a general service troop/cargo carrier. It has a cargo area with drop-sides and drop-tailgate. It can be covered with bows and canvas cover. The Handalan can tow trailers and light artillery pieces. Besides the baseline versions Malaysian Army also operates some communication shelter carriers and a small number of recovery vehicles.

Cab of this military truck accommodates driver and two passengers. There is a roof hatch for observation. The cab is tilted forward for engine access and maintenance.

The Handalan I truck is powered by an Isuzu 6HE1 diesel engine, developing 180 hp. Engine is coupled to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Vehicle has a 4x4 configuration.

In 2003 production of the Handalan I ceased and a new HICOM Handalan II appeared. It was an updated model with a more powerful engine, developing 195 hp. Vehicle was fitted with an automatic 4-speed gearbox. It was based on the current-generation Japanese Isuzu truck. The Handalan II can carry up to 4 800 kg on roads and 3 000 over rough terrain. This truck is also in service with Malaysian Army. It has been exported to Brunei and possibly some other countries.

In 2012 a third generation Handalan III was revealed. It uses even more powerful Tata diesel, developing 230 hp.
