The GAZ-3344 is a Russian articulated all-terrain tracked carrier. Originally it was developed as a commercial vehicle. In 2014 it has been reported that Russian armed forces will obtain a large number of GAZ-3344-20 vehicles. It was planned that first vehicles will be delivered to the Russian Army in 2015.

In concept and in terms of performance the GAZ-3344 is similar to the Swedish Bv 206 or Finnish Sisu NA-110. Russia also has DT-30P and DT-10P articulated all-terrain tracked carriers of the Vityaz family. However these are much larger vehicles.

The GAZ-3344 can carry passengers, cargo and various equipment in remote areas in Siberia and Northern regions of Russia. This vehicle has good cross-country mobility and can go over mud, sand, snow and marshlands. Also it is fully amphibious. Typically articulated tracked carriers have improved cross-country mobility comparing with non-articulated tracked cargo carrier.

The GAZ-3344 comprises of a forward drive unit and rear mission unit. Engine is mounted in the forward unit. It drives tracks of both units. Tracks of the rear unit are powered by an articulated drive coupling.

The forward unit accommodates driver and four passengers. The forward unit has a payload capacity of 750 kg. The rear unit can carry 12 troops. Benches of the rear cargo area can be transformed into sleeper berths for 6 men. The rear unit has a payload capacity of 2 250 kg. This unit can be tailored to suit various needs. It can carry various interchangeable mission modules. It is planned that the Russian Army will operate this vehicle with 5 different rear mission modules.

Military version of the GAZ-3344 has protected fuel tanks and is fitted with NBC protection system for the passengers. Also it has a capability to be fitted with remotely controlled weapon station.

   The GAZ-3344 is unarmored.

The civilian GAZ-3344 is powered by a 4.5-liter Cummins ISB4.5E3 turbocharged diesel engine, developing 185 hp. It is mated with Allison automatic transmission. However the military version is powered by a Russian 4.4-liter YaMZ-53402-10 turbocharged diesel engine, developing 182 hp. Travelling on hard surface roads this vehicle consumes 50 liters of fuel for 100 km of road. Both front and rear units are fitted with Webasto autonomous heaters. A 5 t capacity self-recovery winch is proposed as an option. This vehicle can operate in temperature range from -50C to +40C. It can also operate in mountainous areas up to 4 650 meters beyond the sea level.

This all-terrain tracked carrier has a watertight body and is fully amphibious. On water it is propelled by its tracks.

Russian armed forces plan to procure this vehicle with 5 different rear mission modules, including a troop carrier, logistics vehicle, weapon carrier, ambulance and firefighting vehicle.
