The Dennis
Eagle aircraft refueller was developed specially for the Royal Air Force
(RAF). It is a militarized version of the civilian Dennis Eagle
Elite chassis cab. The Royal Air Force ordered a total of 55 of
these vehicles.
This
aircraft fuel tanker was designed to undertake a multi-role
refueling capability. It is fitted with aluminum 15 500 l capacity
fuel tank. The pumping unit is located behind the cab. The main fuel
pump has a 2 250 liters per minute capacity. It can also defuel at a
rate of 450 liters per minute.
This fuel
truck has a two-door forward control cab. It accommodates driver and
six passengers. Alternatively it can accommodate driver plus and
passengers and have sleeper berths.
The RAF
refueling truck is powered by a Cummins C245 turbocharged diesel
engine, developing 245 hp. It is mated to an Allison 6-speed
automatic transmission. Vehicle has a 6x4 configuration. About one
third of the RAF Dennis Eagle vehicles were ordered with a cold
weather kit. These are fitted with additional heating systems for
the cab, battery and fuel.
This
aircraft refueller is air portable. It can be airlifted by the
C-130 Hercules transport aircraft.
