The BvS 10 Beowulf is a new articulated all-terrain tracked carrier. This vehicle is named after a Scandinavian hero of the English poem, who would travel immense distances to prove his worth against mortal enemies. It was developed in Sweden by BAE Systems Hagglunds as a proposed replacement for the successful Hagglunds Bv 206. It uses power pack, chassis, track system and many other automotive components of the BvS 10 Viking armored articulated tracked carrier. Prototype of the Beowulf was revealed in 2015. Even though it was mainly developed for military applications, this vehicle is also proposed for civil customers.

The BvS 10 Beowulf consists of two articulated tracked units, linked by a steering mechanism. All four rubber tracks are driving continuously. The Beowulf has the same superior cross-country mobility as its predecessors, the Bv 206 and BvS 10. Vehicle has a very low ground pressure of much less than that a man's foot. It can travel over snow, sand and marshlands. This vehicle can climb considerable gradients, swim without preparation and and work in arctic cold or in tropical heath.

The forward unit has a 4-door cab. The troop carrier version of the Beowulf accommodates 10 troops. The driver and 3 passengers are seated in the forward unit, plus 6 passengers in the rear unit. Maximum capacity is driver plus 13 troops. This version can be used for troop transport, logistic, support and other roles. It can bee also used as a light artillery tractor.

Normally both front and rear units are fully enclosed but for some applications the rear unit can vary considerably and in some cases may be left fully opened, such as cargo flatbed or mortar carrier, or can accommodate a variety of bodies.

It is likely that an armored version of this vehicle will be developed. It is worth noting that previous Swedish articulated all-terrain tracked carries are in service with various countries and proved to be versatile.

The Beowulf has an impressive payload capacity of 8 000 kg, including 3 000 kg for the forward unit and 5 000 kg for the rear unit. It is more than 3 times more than the old Bv 206 can carry. Such payload capacity is a lot for this class of vehicles. Only Russian Vityaz series articulated tracked carriers can carry more, but these vehicles are much larger.

Vehicle is powered by a Cummins turbocharged diesel engine, developing 275 hp. The engine is located in the forward unit together with Allison 6-speed automatic transmission. Connection to the rear unit is made via an articulated joint which is also used for steering. It gives great flexibility in all axles and extremely good maneuverability. The simplicity in the handling of the vehicle involves a minimum of driver training. The cab is tilted forward for easy access to the engine and transmission.

The Beowulf can travel over long distances. It has an unrefueled range of up to 1 000 km. Though standard range is around 400 km.

The BvS 10 Beowulf has a watertight body and is fully amphibious. On water it is propelled by its tracks. Amphibious speed on water is 4 km/h.

The vehicle can be airdropped and transported by a variety of aircraft and even by some helicopters.

The Beowulf can operate in a temperature range from -46C to +49C.

It is likely that numerous variants of this articulated all-terrain tracked carrier will be developed. This versatile vehicle can be tailored to meet many roles. It can be uses and an ambulance, a communications or command post vehicle. It can carry various anti-tank guided weapons such as the Bofors BILL or TOW. It can also carry surface-to-air missiles such as Bofors RBS 90, and even various radar systems.
