   In 2008 Turkish MoD decided to acquire a total of 2 000 4x4 and 6x6 tactical wheeled vehicles and mine protected vehicles. The BMC 380-26P was one of them. First production vehicles were delivered in 2009. Turkish Army obtained about 500 of these trucks. This tactical truck is also being proposed for export customers. It has been exported to Azerbaija, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, and Macedonia.

   Designation of this military truck follows the standard BMC practice. First number in the designation denotes engine power (235 hp), while the last number denoted gross vehicle weight (16 t).

   This military truck is entirely conventional in design. The baseline BMC 235-16P truck has a general service troop/cargo body with drop sides and drop tailgate. This military truck can carry 5 000 kg off-road and 8 550 kg on hard surface roads. Cargo area is covered with bows and canvas cover. A variety of other versions of this truck, such as shelter carrier, are also available. Vehicle is fitted with a NATO standard towing hook and can tow trailers and artillery pieces with a maximum weight of 5 000 kg.

   Cab of this military truck accommodates driver and two passengers. There is a roof hatch with a machine gun mount.

   This military truck is powered by a 5.9-liter Cummins B235 20 turbocharged diesel engine, developing 235 hp. It complies with EURO II emission requirements. This engine is produced in Turkey under license. It is mated with a ZF 9-speed manual transmission. Automatic transmission is proposed as an option. Vehicle has a selectable 4x2 and 4x4 configurations. The 4x2 is used on hard surface roads, while the 4x4 is engaged over rough terrain and off-road. A central tyre inflation system with run-flat tyres, as well as self-recovery winch are optional.

Variants

   BMC 215-13 is a right-hand drive variant of the BMC 235-16. It is powered by a less powerful Cummins B215 turbocharged diesel engine, developing 215 hp. This truck has a maximum payload capacity of 6 400 kg;

   BMC 380-26P heavy utility truck with 6x6 configuration. Essentially it is a longer 4x4 chassis with additional axle and necessary driveline modifications. It is powered by a 380 hp engine, and can carry 10 000 kg off-road and up to 15 500 kg on hard surface roads;

   BMC Kirpi mine protected vehicle. It is based on the automotive components of the BMC 235-16P truck. Vehicle has an armored hull with a V-shaped floor.
