The Achleitner Mantra is an Austrian light utility vehicle with 4x4 configuration. It was designed by Franc Achleitner company, which develops and produces various specialist vehicles, including armored ones. Some of their products are designed for security companies, as well as law enforcement forces and military. The Mantra is based on Mercedes-Benz Sprinter with all-wheel drive system. Axles have been raised comparing with a standard commercial sprinter in order to increase ground clearance and off-road mobility. Basically it is a rebadged and militarized version of the Sprinter. The Mantra has been exported to some countries. Known operator of this vehicle is Turkmenistan. This country ordered 120 mm mortars, based on Mantra chassis. These systems were observed in 2013.

A baseline Mantra is a logistical vehicle with 4x4 configuration. It is intended to carry troops and supplies. It has a payload capacity of 2 500 kg, though there are versions of the Mantra, that can carry 3 200 kg, or even 4 200 kg. This vehicle fits the gap between jeeps and light trucks. In concept it is similar to IVECO M70.20WM and some other militarized vehicles, based on standard commercial vans. A baseline version has a single cab and cargo body at the rear. The cab accommodates driver and co-driver. Up to 14 soldiers can be carried at the rear. The cargo area is covered with bows and canvas cover. This vehicle can tow trailers and light artillery pieces.

The Mantra is proposed in a variety of other bodies. These include van body, shelter carrier, and even passenger bus with seating arrangement for up to 21 passengers. There are also a number of other specialized versions, designed to carry weapon systems or equipment. One of them is an ambulance version, which can carry 4 stretchers. There is even a palletized loading system, which can carry various interchangeable mission kits, and a version with 6x4 configuration.

The Mantra is available with a single or double cab.

The Mantra is powered by a Mercedes-Benz turbocharged diesel engine. There are a couple of engine options, developing 170, 190 and 205 hp. Automotive components for this Austrian vehicle are readily available due to popularity of the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter commercial van. The Mantra has a permanent 4x4 configuration. This militarized vehicle and has some degree of cross-country mobility, though it is limited due to commercial nature of the platform. The Mantra is mainly intended to be used on hard surface roads, though it can also travel over tracks or snow. A self-recovery winch can be fitted.

The Mantra can be airlifted by a C130 Hercules or similar tactical transport aircraft.

Variants

Mantra with 6x4 configuration. It is a conversion of the Sprinter with an added axle. A wrecker variant was offered, fitted with specialized equipment for recovery and transportation of damaged and disabled vehicles.

Achleitner Carrier is a similar vehicle to the Mantra, based on Mercedes-Benz Sprinter. It can be seen as a newer version of the Mantra. This vehicle has a payload capacity of 2 500 kg. A baseline general service vehicle with troop and cargo body accommodates driver, plus 9 passengers. The Carrier can be fitted with an optional armored cab. It provides some degree of protection for the driver and co-driver against small arms fire and artillery shell splinters.
