The QLG-10A is China's undergarrel grenade launcher. It a modified version of the QLG-10. It was specially designed for improved QBZ-95-1 assault rifle, which is not compatible with the original QLG-10 due to a redesigned triggerguard. Externally the QLG-10A has a number of differences comparing with the original QLG-10, including a modified trigger mechanism. Both weapons use the same 35 mm grenades.

The QLG-10A is modeled after Russian underbarrel grenade launchers such as the GP-25, GP-30 and GP-34. However the QLG-10 uses smaller 35 mm grenades, opposed to 40 mm Russian grenades.

The QLG-10A grenade launcher is a single-shot weapon. It uses DFS-10 ceaseless high explosive fragmentation grenades. Though most likely more types of grenades, including training and smoke are available for this weapon. These are modeled after the Russian VOG-25 grenades but are smaller and lighter. The propellant charge is placed directly in the projectile. Once the grenade is launched there is nothing left in the barrel. This eliminates the need for a case extraction mechanism.

These grenades detonate on impact. Blast radius is around 5 meters. It is effective against personnel in the open, as well as soft skin vehicles and light structures. In case of successful hit grenade can wound many personnel.

Grenades arm themselves 10-40 mm away from the shooter. Furthermore these grenades are fused to self-destruct if they have not impacted. Range of effective fire is around 200 meters.

This grenade launcher has to be reloaded manually prior to the shot by inserting grenade in the barrel. Unlike the QLG-91 (Chinese clone of the US M203) this weapon is muzzle-loaded, rather than being breech-loaded. Once the grenade is loaded it snaps into a spring catch. This prevents the grenade from falling out when the weapon is pointed downward. If the weapon must be unloaded, there is a built-in push-out extraction system.

A sighting device is mounted on the bracket. Maximum sighting range is 400 m. A red dot sight can be mounted on top of the sighting device. This weapon is aimed only when it is fired from the shoulder. It can be also fired at high angles from kneeling position, with the buttstock of the assault rifle braced against the ground. In this way the grenade launcher is used like a mortar, but accuracy is rather limited.
