The Kel-Tec RDB (Rifle, Downward-ejecting Bullpup) is an advanced semi-automatic rifle. It is a further development of the Kel-Tec RFB, though the new weapon is smaller, lighter and is chambered for different cartridge. The RDB was released in 2014. This weapon has an unusual downward ejection system. It was an attempt to develop a fully-ambidextrous rifle, that would be well suited for right- and left-handed shooters. This rifle is mainly aimed at civil customers.

The Kel-Tec RDB is a gas-operated weapon with a bullpup layout. It is chambered for a standard NATO 5.56x45 mm ammunition. There is also a version of this weapon chambered for Russian 7.62x39 mm ammunition. There were plans to chamber this weapon for 6.5 Grendel ammunition. A standard version comes with a 437 (17") barrel. This weapon has got a manually-adjustable gas system.

The most unusual feature of this weapon is that it uses a patented downward ejection system which makes this weapon truly ambidextrous. Spent cases are ejected downwards through a special port located behind the magazine. This feature eliminates disadvantage of ordinary bullpups with side ejection.

An ambidextrous safety switch is located over the pistol grip. The cocking handle is also ambidextrous. It can be installed on either side of the weapon. Also this weapon is well balanced.

The Kel-Tec RDB can be disassembled without using any tools, other than a bullet or other pointed object to push-out the connecting pins.

This weapon comes as standard with a 20-round capacity magazine. Though it is compatible with any standard AR-15 (M16) type magazines and can uses 30-round magazines.

This rifle has a Picatinny-type scope rail for various optics. This weapon is delivered without iron sights. Though flip-up iron sights can be easily installed. Range of effective fire is around 400~500 meters.

This weapon has a threaded barrel and can mount a sound suppressor. There is an accessory rail under the foregrip. So this rifle can mount various tactical accessories, such as flashlights or laser pointers.

Variants

Kel-Tec RBD Carbine, or RBD-C, is a modified civilian rifle. This weapon lacks pistol grip and has some other modifications, such as adjustable buttstock.

Kel-Tec RDB Survival, or RDB-S is a more compact version of the RDB-C with shorter barrel. This weapon is intended for civil customers. It also lacks pistol grip and has an adjustable buttstock. It was planned that production of this weapon will begin in 2018.

   Kel-Tec M43 is a version chambered for Russian 7.62x39 mm (M43) ammunition.
