The APC9
(Advanced Police Carbine 9 mm) is a
Swiss submachine gun. It was developed by Brugger & Thomet (B&T)
company. This weapon was announced in 2011. The APC9 is offered in
several variants for military, law enforcement and civil customers.
The APC9 is
a blowback operated weapon. It is chambered for standard 9x19 mm
Parabellum ammunition. It is light and compact weapon. Around 60% of
the components are made of polymer materials. This submachine gun
has a 175 mm (6.88") barrel. The barrel comes with integral
suppressor attachment.
An
ambidextrous fire mode selector has settings for "safe", "semi-auto"
and "full-auto". There are numerous semi-automatic only versions of
this weapon, intended for civil customers. A charging
handle is also ambidextrous and can be installed on either side of the receiver.
This
submachine gun comes as standard with 30-round magazines. Though
there are 15-, 20-, and 25-round capacity magazines available for
this weapon. Magazines are translucent. This feature allows to make
a quick estimate on how many rounds are left in the magazine.
Magazines are compatible with other Brugger & Thomet weapons,
including
MP9 submachine gun, as well as TP9 pistol. Furthermore two
magazines can be clamped together for faster reloading.
This weapon
can be equipped with various side-folding or telescopic stocks. The
standard stock is similar to that of the
Heckler
& Koch UMP submachine gun. It folds to the right side, but is
not adjustable for length.
This weapon
has got a Picatinny-type scope rail. It comes as standard with
Ampoint Micro TL red dot sight. Range of effective fire is around
50-75 meters. Flip-up iron sights are integrated into the
Picatinny-type rail. These can be used in case of emergency.
There are
three additional rails for various add-on accessories, such as
vertical grip, laser pointer of tactical flashlight. The APC9 can
also mount a sound suppressor.
Variants
Brugger &
Thomet APC9-SD is a version with integral sound suppressor. In
concept it is similar to the German
Heckler & Koch MP5SD submachine gun. This weapon is intended for
special forces. It uses standard 9x19 mm ammunition, rather than
special subsonic rounds. Its suppressor reduces the muzzle velocity
to subsonic level. So the bullets leave the barrel without causing
sonic shock wave. There is also a semi-automatic only version of
this weapon.
Brugger &
Thomet APC45 is a version chambered for .45 ACP ammunition. This
weapon is mainly aimed at law enforcement forces. It uses 12-, 17-
and 25-round capacity magazines.
