   The Jonyang GDG130 is a Chinese high-speed excavator. In 2001 a similar vehicle, called High-Speed Engineer Vehicle or HSEV, entered service with the Australian Army. It was developed by ADI (not Thales). Later a broadly similar JCB High Mobility Engineer Excavator or HMEE was developed specially for the US Army for deployment in Iraq and Afghanistan. It entered service in 2006. These vehicles proved to be successful.

   In 2004 two ADI HSEV high-speed backhoe loaders were delivered to Chinese army for trials and evaluation. At that time Chinese army was looking for a locally-built, low-cost multi-purpose engineer vehicle. The ADI has teamed with Guizhou Jonyang Kinetics, a local wheeled and tracked excavator manufacturer, and established a license production of the HSEV in China. A total of 30 HSEV knock-down kits were exported to China for local assembly to start production. Later this machine was modified to meet Chinese army requirements and production of the Jonyang GDG130 began.

   The GDG130 has some differences comparing with the original HSEV. This machine is already in service with the Chinese army. It is also being proposed for civil customers.

   The Chinese Jonyang GDG130 is designed to support heavy forces. It is capable of performing a variety of field engineering tasks and support fast moving forces. This multi-purpose machine can dig combat emplacements, trenches, firing positions, fill ditches and clear obstacles. It can also construct point obstacles during counter mobility operations. Once engineering tasks are completed the GDG130 can quickly self-deploy to the next mission site.

   In the basic role this machine is fitted with a 0.2 m capacity backhoe and a 0.8 m capacity front-end loader. The backhoe can dig to a depth of over 4 m. The front-end loader can be adapted to carry attachments and accessories like fork-lift, snow plough, compactor, rock breaker and earth auger.

   This engineering vehicle carries no defensive armament.

   The Jonyang GDG130 is powered by a Cummins 6BTA5.9C, a 5.9-liter turbocharged diesel engine, developing 185 hp. The same engine is used on the Australian HSEV. Vehicle has a full-time all-wheel drive. This machine has unique combination of wheel size and air-bag suspension for high on road and cross-country speeds. This backhoe loader can self-deploy over long distances. It can travel at a maximum speed of 90 km/h and maintain 80 km/h over long distances. Most backhoe loaders are limited to much lower speeds. Furthermore the GDG130 can tow trailer with a maximum weight of 8 t.
