The Bison is a German wrecker, based on Mercedes-Benz Actors 8x8 heavy truck. It is in service with the German army. German army ordered at least 12 of these recovery vehicles.

The Bison is fitted with special recovery equipment. It is mainly intended to recover various wheeled military vehicles. It can recover 8x8 Boxer armored personnel carriers or other vehicles with similar weight. The Bison can recover stuck, damaged, overturned, swamped military trucks. The Bison tows them to maintenance units or provides maintenance service in the field.

Vehicle is also fitted with hydraulic crane. It is used to recover overturned vehicles and to lift various loads. It also has recovery winch. Also there are towing bars and towing cables. Vehicle has a special frame that is used to lift disabled vehicles onto a special towing bar. Disabled and uncontrolled vehicles are towed in a semi-lifted position. Maximum towing speed is 80 km/h.

Vehicle has a heavily armored cab. This cab was developed by Mercedes-Benz Trucks in cooperation with Land Mobility Technologies of South Africa. It offers protection level for the crew comparable to that of modern infantry fighting vehicles It provides protection for the crew against small arms fire, artillery shell splinters, land mines and improvised explosive devices. Maximum level of protection is against 14.5-mm projectiles and blasts equivalent to 10 kg of TNT anywhere under the hull.

There is a roof hatch for observation, firing and emergency exit.

The Bison is operated by a crew of three, including commander, driver and handler.

The Bison is based on commercial Mercedes-Benz Actros truck, that has been modified to suit military needs. Vehicle has conventional design and layout and uses only commercially available and proven automotive components. It seems that this truck is powered by Mercedes-Benz OM 502 LA turbocharged diesel engine, developing 510 hp. It is mated to a 16-speed gearbox. Vehicle has a full-time all-wheel drive. The Bison can ford water obstacles with a depth of 0.75 m and up to 1.2 m, when fitted with deep wading equipment.

Estonian Army also uses wrecker, based on the Mercedes-Benz Actros truck. However it lacks armored cabin and has different recovery equipment.
