Benning is a US Army training center, located on the border of
Alabama and Georgia. It is one of the largest military bases in the
word, and one of the largest US military base.
camp was established back in 1918. So today this military base is
used nearly for 100 years. Since its establishment it served as the home of the US
infantry. Initially it provided basic training for the World War I
units. In 1920 over 8 000 troops were stationed here. In 1922 the
military base was renamed the Fort Benning, after Henry L. Benning, a brigadier general in the Confederate
States Army during the American Civil War.
World War II the base expanded to 798 km˛. That was even more than
its current dimension. At the time it was home to nearly 100 000
soldiers, including 4 000 officers and 95 000 enlisted
persons. During the World War II Fort Benning became the home for an
armored reconnaissance battalion, armored engineer battalion and and
parachute infantry battalion.
1950-1951, first of four infantry divisions, committed by the United
States to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) completed
its basic training at Fort Benning and was deployed to Germany for
Vietnam War the Fort Benning was the site of the US Scout dog
school. Dogs were trained here to detect ambushed in hostile
environment. After their initial training dogs were transferred to
Vietnam for further advanced courses.

Currently the Fort Benning
is the home of both armor and infantry. It houses the US Army
Maneuver Center of Excellence, the US Army Armor School, the US Army
Infantry School, elements of the 75th Ranger Regiment, and many
other additional tenant units. The Fort Benning supports more than 120 000 soldiers, their family members
and civil personnel. Military personnel includes around 25 000 active-duty
soldiers, 6 500
reserve soldiers, as well 13 000 retirees, 30 500 off-post retirees,
21 000 dependants and 5 000 employees.

power projection platform. The US Army forces can be deployed from Fort Benning to various hotspots by air, rail and highway.
