The Orkan
CER multiple launch rocket system was developed by the
Yugoimport-SDPR, a Serbian state-owned company, founded in 1949. It
is a recent version of the
M87 Orkan.
Currently it is being proposed for possible customers.
This
artillery rocket system is intended for rapid and unexpected strikes
against enemy troops and non-armored vehicles. It features high
firepower, long range, high operational and tactical mobility.
The Orkan CER has
a newly
designed artillery section with eight 262-mm launching tubes. It is capable of firing 262-mm rockets
of the older M87 Orkan. A standard rocket is 4.85 m long and
weights 390 kg. Warhead weights about 90 kg. A HE, HE-FRAG,
thermobaric and cluster warheads with 288 dual-purpose bomblets, or
24 magnetic sensor-fused anti-tank mines are available. A standard
rocket has a range of 50 km. An extended range rocket is 4.88 m long
and weights 404 kg. Warhead of this rocket also weights about 90
kg. It has a maximum range of 65 km.
A standard
version of the Orkan CER is fitted with manual aiming controls.
Automatic controls are optional. Launching vehicle is equipped with a GPS unit for automatic
positioning. Rockets can be launched directly from the cab or up to
80 m remotely from the vehicle. The Orkan CER is capable of
launching single rockets or full salvo.
This artillery rocket
system is based on the Russian
KamAZ-63501 8x8 cross-country truck.
Vehicle is fitted with a central tyre inflation system, which is
controlled from the cab. This artillery rocket system has
operational temperature range from -30°C to +50°C.
