The M94
Plamnen-S (Flame) multiple launch rocket system was developed
in Yugoslavia from the towed M63 Plamen MLRS. It is intended to
support frontline units with sudden attacks on enemy forces.
Currently Serbia operates about 18 of these artillery systems.
The Plamen-S
MLRS has 32 launching tubes for 128-mm rockets. It is not to be
confused with the 128-mm rocket of the
M77
Oganj. A standard rocket of the M94 is shorter. This
artillery system can fire previous Plamen-A and Plamen-B rockets,
developed for the towed variant, as well as new Plamen-S rockets
with extended range. Maximum range of fire is 12.6 km with Plamen-S
rockets, and 8.6 km with Plamen-A/B rockets. Effect of each rocket
on target is equivalent to 105-mm artillery shell.
The M94 MLRS
can launch rockets from traveling and leave firing position within
minutes.
The M94
Plamen-S launcher is mounted on the
TAM-150 6x6 military truck. It
is powered by a license-produced Klockner-Humboldt-Deutz air-cooled diesel
engine, developing 150 hp. Vehicle has a full-time all-wheel-drive
and is fitted with a central tyre inflation system.
Vehicle
carries a full set of reload rockets, stored in the automatic
loader, however this artillery system can also be reloaded manually.
In travelling position rocket launcher is covered by a canvas cover.
