K30 Biho

   The K30 Biho (flying tiger) self-propelled anti aircraft gun was developed by Doosan since the early 80s to meet the operational requirements of the ROK Army. Development process was plagued with economical difficulties and technical shortages. It is the first indigenous Korean advanced weapon system. However the K30 Biho is an effective system comparable to any other modern SPAAG. In 2006 a contract has been awarded to supply this systems to the South Korean Army. It is also offered for export customers.

   The K30 Biho is armed with twin 30-mm guns. Cyclic rate of fire for a single gun is 600 rounds per minute. Each gun is provided with 300 rounds of ready to use ammunition. The K30 Biho fires HE-FRAG rounds against air targets. Effective firing range is approximately 3 km. The K30 has a high kill probability against low-flying airborne targets.

   Vehicle is fitted with surveillance radar, electro optical tracking system, laser rangefinder, thermal sight and advanced high precision digital fire control system. Radar range is 17 - 20 km. The K30 Biho is fitted with friend-or-foe identification system. It is an all-weather artillery systems which can operate under day or night conditions.

   Armor of the K30 Biho provides protection against small arms fire and artillery shell splinters. Vehicle is fitted with NBC protection and automatic fire suppression systems.

   The K30 Biho has a crew of three, including commander, gunner and driver.

   Vehicle is powered by the MAN D2848MT diesel engine, developing 520 horsepower.
