The YW 307 infantry fighting vehicle was developed during the late 1980s. It is based on the YW 534 tracked armored personnel carrier.

The YW 307 IFV is armed with an externally mounted 25-mm cannon with a coaxial 7.62-mm machine gun. Overall design of the YW 307 IFV is generally similar to the Type 89 APC.

Inside the Type YW 307 infantry fighting vehicle the number of troops carried is reduced to seven (plus the driver and commander) although the combat weight is increased to 15.4 t. A couple of firing ports are provided for the troops. Troops enter and leave the vehicle through the rear mounted doors.

The YW 307 infantry fighting vehicle is amphibious, propulsion provided afloat by spinning it's tracks.

A number of armored vehicles are based on the YW 307 IFV, including command vehicle, 82- and 120-mm mortars, 122-mm self-propelled howitzer, multiple launch rocket system, engineering vehicle and armored ambulance.
