   The Higuard mine resistant ambush protected vehicle was developed by Renault Trucks Defense as a private venture. It is a first dedicated MRAP vehicle developed by Renault. It was introduced in 2008. This Vehicle is being offered for export. Qatari internal security forces ordered 22 of these MRAP vehicles. The Higuard is also being proposed as internal security vehicle.

   The Higuard is based on Renault Sherpa 6x6 tactical truck. It was designed for troop transportation in asymethric combat areas where mines, improvised explosive devices are likely to be encountered.

   Vehicle has a V-shaped hull, that deflects blasts away. It offers protection for the crew and passengers against landmines and IED blasts. Crew and troops are seated on special seats blast protected seats.

   The Higuard has a modular ballistic protection. Add-on armor kit can be fitted in combat zones for the highest level of protection.

   This MRAP has a crew of two and accommodates up to 10 fully-equipped soldiers. Troops enter and leave the vehicle via rear doors. Also there are roof hatches for emergency exit. Higuards delivered to Qatar are fitted with rear power-operated ramp. Vehicle has a payload capacity of up to 4 t.

   Vehicle can be fitted with a roof-mounted and shielded 12.7-mm machine gun. It is also available with remotely controlled weapon station.

   The Higuard is powered by Renault MD-7 turbocharged diesel engine, developing 340 hp. It is mated to ZF 8-speed manual transmission. Vehicle has a 6x4 configuration on hard surface roads. A 6x6 is engaged off-road. A self-recovery winch is optional.

   The Higuard can be airlifted by the C-130 or A400M military transport aircraft.
