The MOWAG
DURO IIIP (DUrable and RObust) is an armored, mine-protected multi-purpose transport
vehicle, based on the DURO III 6x6. The
first prototype was completed in 1999. Currently it is in service
with Switzerland, Denmark and Germany.
Vehicle is fitted with a
fully-enclosed
modular shelter, which can be replaced to suit specific mission
requirements. It has a payload
capacity of 3 000 kg and sufficient internal volume to fulfill a
number of roles. Variety of shelter modules can be mounted on a
single chassis.
The DURO
IIIP has a modular protection concept, which can be improved by
adding armor kits. Baseline variant protects against 7.62-mm rounds and artillery shell splinters.
Vehicle withstands 6 kg AT mine blast under any wheel.
Vehicle
accommodates up to 12 troops, plus the crew of two. Troops enter and
leave the vehicle through the rear door.
The MOWAG
DURO IIIP might be fitted with remotely controlled weapon station,
armed with 7.62-mm machine gun or 40-mm automatic grenade launcher.
This
military vehicle is powered by a
Cummins ISBe turbocharged diesel engine, developing 245 hp. This
engine meets EURO III emission requirements. The DURO IIIP has a
permanent all-wheel drive system. It uses a patented stabilizer
system, which allows axle twisting on rough terrain. Vehicle is fitted with
a run-flat tyres as standard.
Variants
Rheinmetall Yak, German version, based
on the DURO IIIP chassis, jointly produced by MOWAG of Switzerland and Rheinmetall
of Germany. It is in
service with the German Army.
