The Lazika is a new Georgian infantry fighting vehicle. It was revealed in 2012. It was developed both for the Georgian Army and possible export customers. It is the first indigenous infantry fighting vehicle, which followed the locally developed Didgori armored personnel carrier. This new IFV is currently in service with the Georgian Army.

The Lazika is much lighter comparing with modern IFVs, so its armor protection is likely to be poor. It is claimed, that the Lazika provides protection against 14.5-mm armor-piercing rounds at the front arc. All-round protection is likely to be against 7.62-mm armor-piercing bullets and artillery shell splinters. Vehicle is also fitted with smoke grenade dischargers. Possibly it is equipped with NBC protection and automatic fire suppression systems.

The Lazika is fitted with a remotely-controlled weapon station, armed with 23-mm cannon and coaxial 7.62-mm machine gun. These weapons are operated from inside of the vehicle, under full armor protection.

Troop compartment is located at the rear. This armored fighting vehicle accommodates 7 troops, plus the driver, commander and gunner. Troops enter and leave the vehicle via the rear ramp.

This new infantry fighting vehicle uses components of the Soviet BMP-1. It is powered by an unspecified turbocharged diesel engine, developing 300 hp. Engine compartment is located at the front of the hull. Some sources claim, that maximum range of the Lazika on internal full tanks is only 200 km. With the use of additional fuel tanks range is extended to 400 km. It seems that this vehicle is not amphibious.
