The Lazar 2 is an 8×8 multi-role military vehicle produced by the Complex Battle System factory in Velika Plana owned by Yugoimport–SDPR. The first prototype was publicly presented in 2013. It is named after a Serbian Prince Lazar, who headed the Serbian Army in 14-th century. This armored vehicle is aimed at a possible Serbian Army requirement. It is also being proposed for export customers. Pakistan ordered three Lazar 2 armored vehicles.

The concept of the previous Lazar 1 vehicle represented a combination of the characteristics of mine protected vehicle and armored personnel carrier. The Lazar 2 is an improved and redesigned version. It has a redesigned front end and looks more like an armored personnel carrier, rather than mine protected vehicle.

Hull of the Lazar 2 presents modular construction, with possibilities of different level of protection, according to the needs of the user. Basic level of all-round armored protection, without add-on armor withstands 7.62x39-mm armor-piercing rounds. Add-on composite armor can be fitted for a higher level of protection. Once add-on armor is fitted vehicle provides protection against 14.5-mm armor-piercing rounds. Protection of this APC can be further enhanced with explosive reactive armor, which protects against RPG-7 rockets. NBC protection system is optional.

The Lazar 2 is well protected against mines. Vehicle has a V-shaped hull and significant ground clearance. Seats are attached to the roof rather than floor. This baseline armored vehicles withstands 6 kg anti-tank mine blast under any wheel or floor. Once additional anti-mine protection is fitted the Lazar 2 withstands blasts equivalent to 8 kg of TNT anywhere under the hull or under any wheel.

This multi-role armored vehicle is armed with a turret-mounted M86 30-mm automatic cannon with double-feed mechanism. This canon is made by Zastava. It has a rate of fire of 550-650 rounds per minute. There is also a 7.62-mm machine gun. The Lazar 2 can be fitted with upgraded Malyutka (-2T and -2F) anti-tank guided missiles. There are smoke grenade dischargers. This APC has a telescopic day sight with TV camera and night sight with thermal imaging camera. Vehicle has an eyesafe laser rangefinder. Vehicle can be fitted with different types of weapon turrets depending on the purpose of the vehicle.

The Lazar 2 seats three crew members and nine troops. The vehicle is equipped with a rear ramp for easier entrance and exit, and has two doors embedded within that ramp for emergency situations. It has five bullet proof windows and firing ports on each side of the vehicle, as well as two on the rear of the vehicle. This allows the troops inside the vehicle to have a high situational awareness and to engage targets from inside the safety of the vehicle. Cameras are fitted on vehicle and driver has a near 360° field of visibility.

The vehicle is powered by a Cummins ISM500 (500hp) engine ensuring high mobility even on rough terrain. It is claimed that it uses a number of automotive components from the Russian KamAZ military trucks. It is worth noting that the original Lazar used automotive components of the TAM-150 truck. Vehicle has an independent suspension. It is also fitted with a central tyre inflation system with run-flat tyres.

The Lazar 2 can be used as a base for a wide range of variants, including command vehicle, ambulance, engineering and recovery vehicles, mortar carrier, ATGW carrier or air defense system.
