The KrAZ Kuguar (cougar) light armored personnel carrier is produced in Ukraine under license from the Streit Group. It is a version of the Streit Group Cougar light APC. First vehicles were delivered to Ukrainian armed forced in 2014. These light armored vehicles were pressed into service due to ongoing military conflict in Ukraine. These are used by Ukrainian National Guard. It seems that as of 2015 this light armored personnel carrier is used by Ukraine in significant numbers.

The KrAZ Kuguar is based on Toyota Land Cruiser 79 chassis. This light armored personnel carrier is cost effective to maintain and to operate. Originally it was intended for convoy, peacekeeping, border patrol and other low intensity operations. It is not very suitable for high-intensity operations. However due to the lack of readily available armored vehicles it was pressed into service with Ukrainian armed forces. It is worth noting that during the military conflict with Russia, Ukraine lost a large number of their armored vehicles. It would take too long to produce new 8x8 armored personnel carriers.

Armor of this vehicle provides protection against standard NATO 7.62x51-mm ball rounds and artillery shell splinters. Floor of the vehicle withstands grenade blasts.

The Kuguar has a shielded weapon mount on the roof. It can be armed with 7.62-mm, 12.7-mm machine guns or 40-mm automatic grenade launcher.

Vehicle accommodates up to 9 troops, including the driver. Troops enter and leave the vehicle via side or rear doors. There are some observation windows and firing ports provided for the troops. Alternatively it can carry up to a 1 000 kg of supplies.

The Kuguar is powered by either a 4-liter Toyota turbocharged diesel engine, developing 240 hp, or 4.5-liter petrol engine, developing 218 hp. There is also a Toyota 4-liter petrol engine, developing 228 hp. Engine is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Vehicle has a 4x4 configuration with full-time all-wheel drive capability.

Ukrainian armed forces also acquired KrAZ Spartan armored personnel carriers. The Spartan is also a Streit Group product, that is license-produced in Ukraine by AvtoKrAZ.
