The GPV or
General Purpose Vehicles company has developed a family of armored
personnel carrier. These are available in 4x4, 6x6, 8x8 and 10x10
configurations. To date no production orders were placed on this
armored vehicles family.
The GPV
Captain can accommodate various weapon systems, including one- or
two-man turrets and remotely controlled weapon stations.
All-round
protection is against 7.62-mm rounds. Armor thickness of the GPV
Captain depends on customers requirements. Hull can be manufactured
from aluminum or titanium and other materials. Vehicle has a
V-shaped hull for improved mine protection. Suspension components
were designed to brake free in a blast. This reduces acceleration
into the hull. The GPV Captain is fitted with NBC protection system.
The GPV
Captain has a crew of two and provides accommodation for 14 troops.
Space is provided for gear and equipment stowage.
Troops enter and leave
the vehicle through the side doors or rear ramp.
The GPV
Captain APC is powered by a Caterpillar C7 diesel engine, developing
350 hp. Vehicle is also fitted with a three-cylinder diesel
auxiliary power unit, developing 21 hp. It is mainly used to power
heating and air conditioning or to recharge the main engine
batteries. The GPV captain has an active hydropneumatic suspension
system. It
enables to adjust ground clearance electronically or to lean vehicle
in any direction. Ground clearance is adjusted depending on road
conditions. This armored personnel carrier is fitted with a central tyre inflation system. Vehicle is fully amphibious without
preparation. On water it is propelled by spinning it's wheels.
Hydrojets are offered as an option. The GPV Captain can be airlifted
by the
C-130 Hercules
transport aircraft.
