The DT-3PB is an armored articulated all-terrain tracked carrier. It seems that this vehicle was developed as a private venture. It is an armored version of the DT-3P. The first prototype was revealed in 2012. The DT-3PB has been trialed by the Russian Army. Some sources report that the main role of this vehicle is to carry special forces soldiers in the Northern areas and Arctic.

This armored vehicle is roughly equivalent to the Bv 206S and BvS 10/Viking. Some sources report, that at sone point Russian MoD planned to obtain Swedish Hagglunds Bv 206 articulated all-terrain carriers, however later it opted for an indigenous design. Russia had experience developing such vehicles already. These were the successful DT-10 and DT-30 articulated all-terrain tracked carriers of the Vityaz series.

The DT-3PB consists of two articulated tracked units, linked by a steering mechanism. All four tracks are driving continuously. This machine can carry 10 troops. Alternatively it can carry 3 t of cargo. The front unit has a cab and engine compartment. The rear unit accommodates troops. Alternatively the rear unit can carry various weapons or specialized equipment.

The DT-3PB has armor plating on all of its bodywork. Protection of this vehicle is classified. However it is most likely to provide all-round protection against small arms fire and artillery shell splinters. NBC protection and automatic fire suppression systems are likely to be fitted. Vehicle is armed with remotely-controlled 12.7-mm machine gun. It can be used for self-defense against ground and air targets. However in its normal deployment this vehicle should avoid contact with enemy troops.

This new machine was designed to operate in harsh arctic conditions. The DT-3PB has good cross-country mobility over difficult terrain. It can go over snow, mud, sand and swamps. Vehicle has low ground pressure due to its tracked design. Its articulated arrangement also gives a number of advantages. The DT-3PB is also capable of high-speed travel over hard surface roads. Vehicle can operate autonomously for up to 72 hours.

Vehicle is powered by a YaMZ-238B turbocharged diesel engine, developing 300 hp. This engine is commercially available and is widely used on heavy Russian trucks. The DT-3PB is amphibious without preparation. On water it is propelled by its tracks. This articulated carrier can operate in climatic conditions ranging from -50C to +50C.
