The Bv 206S
articulated all-terrain tracked carrier is an armored variant of the
Bv 206. The Bv 206S is in service
with Sweden, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and some other countries.
The Bv 206S was designed to operate in arctic, desert of jungle
conditions. Vehicle's
articulated arrangement gives it a number of advantages. It has good
mobility over difficult terrain including swamp, mud and snow.
The Bv 206S
tracked carrier has a modified rear cab comparing with the Bv 206 and armor plating on all its bodywork. Vehicle
provides protection from small arms fire and artillery shrapnel.
Vehicle can be fitted with an NBC and automatic fire suppression
systems.
This armored
personnel carrier is fitted with a ring mount for a single 7.62 mm
of 12.7 mm machine gun.
The Bv 206S
can carry the driver and 11 fully equipped troops. Three of them are
carried in the front cab and eight in the rear. Alternatively cargo
can be carried in place of the troops. The front cab has a payload
capacity of 500 kg, while the rear - 1 000 to 2 000 kg.
Vehicle is
powered by the Steyr M16 diesel engine, developing 175 horsepower.
Engine and transmission are installed in the front unit. The Bv 206S
is fully amphibious after a short preparation. On water it is propelled on
water by its tracks.
