The Aravis MRAP was developed by Nexter Systems. This vehicle was revealed in 2008 and production commenced in 2009. A small number of these vehicles are in service with the French Army. First vehicles were delivered in 2010. It was used during operations in Afghanistan. Some sources claim that Aravis has been exported to Saudi Arabia.

This vehicle is based on a Mercedes-Benz Unimog chassis. The Aravis is referred as one of the most protected vehicles in its weight class. There are more MRAP vehicles based on Unimog chassis. These are Dingo 2, RG-33, Kaya, G10 and some other.

The Aravis has a patented Safepro modular add-on armor. It is claimed that vehicle withstands hits from 14.5-mm armor-piercing rounds. Vehicle has a V-shaped hull and withstands 10 kg TNT blasts. It is claimed that crew and troops will survive once the vehicle is hit by an 50 kg IED blast at 5 meters.

The Aravis is fitted with remotely controlled weapon station, armed with 12.7-mm machine gun. Other weapons up to 20-mm caliber can be fitted depending on customer requirement.

This mine resistant ambush protected vehicle has a crew of two. Depending on the version it accommodates 6 or 7 fully-equipped troops. Occupants enter and leave the vehicle via side doors.

The Aravis is based on the Mercedes-Benz Unimog U5000 chassis. This chassis was selected because of its good cross-country mobility. Also spare parts are easily available all over the world. It is powered by a Mercedes-Benz OM 924 turbocharged diesel engine, developing 218 hp. Engine is coupled to an automatic transmission. Vehicle can operate in 4x4 and 4x2 modes. The 4x2 configuration is used on hard surface roads. Maximum speed and range can be achieved only in 4x2 configuration. The Aravis is fitted with a central tyre inflation system. This mine resistant vehicle can be airlifted by a C-130 Hercules, A400M Atlas or similar military cargo aircraft.

Variants of the Aravis include reconnaissance vehicle, ambulance and command post vehicle.
